I mean, seriously. Don’t call people whores and sluts. You wouldn’t want someone judging you for your sex life, would you?  Probably not. So don’t judge other people.

Please, just, hear me out here. Don’t call people whores or sluts. Don’t call people whores or sluts when you really mean shitty person/total jerk/more attractive than you/meanies/girl.

It is really easy not to slut shame, I promise. Here are example situations that will teach you how to not slut shame.

Example: There are people on facebook you do not like. They post annoying pictures of themselves doing duck faces with peace signs or pictures of themselves kissing their boyfriend/girlfriend/partner or they misspell words in their status updates or post things you don’t like or any other generally negative stuff like that and it bugs you.

What do you say?

A) Facebook is full of whores!

B) Facebook is full of people who I do not particularly like.

THE CORRECT ANSWER IS NEVER A.

Don’t call people whores or sluts!

Another example: There is a girl who has many sexual partners. She is a…

A) Whore

B) Slut

C) Human being whose sex life has absolutely nothing to do with you unless you are in a relationship with her.

Guess what? THE ANSWER IS C.

DON’T SLUT SHAME!

Don’t call people whores. Don’t call people sluts. Don’t call people slags, skanks, hussies, hoes, sleezy, easy, the town bicycle, sororstitutes, or any other word that insults someone on the basis of their sexual life.

Slut shaming contributes to rape culture, which is the type of culture where rape is accepted as an inevitable. Slut shaming places the blame on victims of sexually aggressive crimes, creating a “she was asking for it” mentality, all because society thinks it is a okay to go around calling people (predominately women) sluts and whores. Calling someone a whore helps create a world where rape is okay. Does anyone want to live in a world like that?

So, here we go. I am just going to assume that all of my followers are generally against rape, which on top of being COMMON SENSE is really awesome. Being against rape is a good place to start if you want to stop it from happening.

Here is the crazy thing, though. You, in your personal daily life, can do something to help stop rape and other sexually motivated crimes. It isn’t anything big or fancy or creative or even expensive. It is so incredibly simple.

Ready? The answer should be pretty obvious by this point in the post, but here it is: Stop slut shaming. That’s it. Just don’t call people sluts and whores. No matter what they’re doing, what they’re wearing, or who they’ve fucking, do not call people sluts. Ask your friends to not call people sluts and whores. That way, this “she was asking for it” mentality will start disappearing, rape will no longer be viewed as an inevitable, people will understand that nobody is ever extending an invitation to be raped, and eventually the world will be a much happier, safer place.

So stop slut shaming. It will do so much good, I promise.
